The Southwater branch of the Anne Frank Montessori Nursery School, based in the former Council Offices on Church Lane, will be closing this summer with many staff and children moving to their sister site in Horsham.

The nursery, which has been running in Southwater for nearly nine years, will close on 21st August.

The decision was made after housing development plans in the area meant that the Parish Council could not guarantee the lease on the nursery building for the 2015/2016 school year.

To minimise any potential disruption for the children and their families, school Principal Thea Bredie made the difficult decision to close the nursery at the end of the summer term.

Staff and children will be able to transfer to the nursery’s sister site in Bennetts Field Horsham, also owned by Thea, which has been providing a Montessori education to children in the area since 1996.

Explaining the decision to close, Thea said: “It was a sad and difficult decision - after eight and a half happy years - to close this summer, but I did not want to risk disrupting our children and their families further by having to close mid-year.

“I am pleased, however, that we are welcoming many of our Southwater children and staff at our Horsham setting where they can continue their Montessori education amongst new and familiar faces.”

Jo, whose daughter Scarlott attends the nursery, said “it is really sad that the nursery is closing as it has been a big part of the Southwater community for many years and Scarlott has been very happy there.

“However we’re pleased that she will be able to move to Horsham along with her Key Person and friends in September.”
