Collyer's awards bursaries to nine Horsham and Mid Sussex students

Bursaries were awarded to a student from each of the key local partner schools and to students achieving top grades from schools north, south, east and west of Horsham.

Principal Sally Bromley said: “It is important that Collyer’s recognise the outstanding work of our excellent partner schools, by rewarding some of our new students for their academic success in Year 11.

“We attract students from right across the region, so it is fitting that we should also reward those coming to us from farther afield.

“I’m sure the money will be put to good use to help support their education or extra-curricular activities while at Collyer’s.”

The students who received bursaries were:

Linden said: “I am very grateful to be receiving this award and would like to thank the teachers at Forest who helped to prepare me for my GCSE’s.”

Colette brilliantly balanced her GCSE’s while representing the British Youth Team for Carriage Driving Trials, where she was crowned the U18 European Champion, the school said.

The Hurstpierpoint College student said she was ‘loving every day at the college’, adding: “I’m looking forward to the new challenges of A-Levels and advancing in the sport of Carriage Driving Trials.”

Sejal is enjoying her first term at the college. She said: “I would just like to say a massive thank you to all of the teachers who supported me at Millais and helped me to perform to the best of my ability.

“I am thrilled with the start that I’ve made at Collyers and look forward to growing over the next two years!”

Hayler thanked her teachers: ““I’d like to thank my teachers, especially Mr Cooper and Miss McInerney, from The Weald School for supporting and pushing me to exceed my targets.”

Collyer’s offers free post-16 education. It received an ‘oustanding’ rating from Ofsted in its last inspection.

Ms Bromley told students: “You’ve all made a great start to life at Collyer’s and I’m confident that your individual success stories can continue into advanced level and beyond.

“You are a credit to the excellent schools you attended and I’m sure that they are extremely proud of your outstanding GCSE achievements!”
