BEEDING’S first ever duck race was hailed a ‘great success’.

Raising money for Beeding’s Old Building (BOB) project, Upper Beeding School, School Lane held the event on Saturday, where around 50 people turned up on the bank of the River Adur to cheer the ducks on.

There were nine races in total with prizes awarded to those coming in 1st, 2nd and last at the Rising Sun pub. The fastest duck in the village was awarded to Quack 25, who won a family of four ticket kindly donated by Newhaven Fort.

Organisers said; “Considering it was the first time we have held a duck race, it was a great success, and we are hoping to hold it again next year, especially if we can guarantee the great weather again.”

The school wanted to thank the three parents, Tim Albright, Jon Davis and Ian Baker, who braved the chilly water in their kayaks to launch and catch ducks. Upper Beeding Football Club who loaned the ducks, Alincourt Roofing Ltd who sponsored the first race and the Rising Sun pub for supporting the event and sold 107 ducks.
