Police investigate sexual assault in Crawley last night

Police have opened up an investigation after a woman was sexually assaulted in Crawley last night (Saturday, March 27).

Sussex Police has said it is investigating a report that a woman was sexually assaulted in Bewbush Drive at about 8.15pm yesterday.

Police will be increasing patrols in the area following the incident and anyone who may have witnessed it has been asked to come forward.

The victim was grabbed by an unknown man and subsequently ran to a place of safety, police have said.

Enquiries are ongoing to identify the suspect and officers will be conducting additional patrols in the local area.

Chief Inspector Shane Baker said: "Our teams will be carrying out fast-time actions including house to house enquiries as we work to identify the suspect responsible.

"We are treating this an isolated incident, however we will be carrying out additional patrols to provide reassurance to the local community."
