Police investigate church break-in

Sussex Police has said it is investigating a break-in at a church in Storrington.

St Mary’s Church in Church Street, Storrington, was throught to have been broken into between 5pm on Monday January 30 and 9am on Wednesday February 1.

Police said windows were broken, an offertory box was opened but they do not believe anything was stolen.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Police are investigating a break-in at a church in Storrington.

“The break-in was discovered by a church warden at St Mary’s church in Church Street around 9am on Wednesday, February 1 and is thought to have happened between 5pm Monday and the time of its discovery.

“A window was broken in the south porch. A metal offertory box was forced open, but it is not known how much, if any, money was inside. A sacristy door was broken open, but nothing appears to have been stolen.

“Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to email [email protected] or call 101 quoting serial 339 of 01/02.”
