Police appeal following sex attack at Surrey village church

Police are appealing for information following reports of a sexual assault in a village church eight years ago.

Officers say that the assault happened in a toilet at Cranleigh Baptist Church on Christmas Eve in 2012, but was not reported until January this year.

A Surrey Police spokesman said: “The only description of the suspect is that he was male.

“The assault occurred during an organised Christmas performance and we would like to speak to anyone who was at the church that night.”

Detective Constable Neil Palmer added: “It has taken immense bravery for the victim to come forward and we are doing everything we can to identify the person responsible for this assault.

“We are looking to speak to anyone who was at the church that evening and may have photographs or seen something suspicious.”
