Man, 63, accused of £236,000 fraud

A 63-YEAR-OLD Billingshurst man has been charged with more than 20 counts of fraud in West Sussex and Hampshire amounting to around £236,000.

John Alexander Taylor, of Lordings Road, faces allegations of 23 counts of fraud by false representation between May 2009 and February 2011.

Sussex Police said this week that he was arrested at his home address in January and was charged with the offences earlier this month.

He is due to appear at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Thursday September 1.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Sussex Police began a complex investigation into allegations of fraud following a complaint from a man who brought tickets to a non-existent charity ball in Edinburgh in September 2010.

“The investigation, which has been run by the West Sussex Priority Crime Team, has also included looking at donations made to charity and cheques written to buy property.

“The offences are alleged to have taken place in Horsham, Southampton, Liphook in Hampshire, Kingston Gorse and Petersfield.’’
