Lindfield man faces trial over fatal collision in Ditchling

A Lindfield man is to go on trial accused of causing death by careless driving.

Thomas Jeeves, 30, of Brookway, Lindfield, appeared before Crawley Magistrates’ Court last Monday (August 3), police said.

He has also been charged with driving without due care and attention while over the specified limit, driving under the influence of drugs and using a vehicle with tyres with insufficient tread.

His charges relate to a fatal collision on the B2112 Common Lane, Ditchling, on June 4, last year, which tragically resulted in the death of a 26-year-old woman from Haywards Heath.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Thomas Jeeves appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on August 3, where he faced charges of driving without due care and attention; driving with 529mcg of benzoylecgonine per litre of blood in his system; driving with tyres of an insufficient tread depth; and causing death by careless driving. The case is now listed for trial at Lewes Crown Court on September 1.”

The Crown Prosecution Service added: “There was a hearing at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on August 3, for Thomas Jeeves, who is charged with the following offences: causing death by driving without due care/consideration while over the specified limit – specified controlled drug (x2); driving without due care and attention; driving with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit; using a vehicle with tyres with insufficient tread.

The next hearing in this case is a pre-trial preparatory hearing at Lewes Crown Court on Tuesday, September 1.”
