On Wednesday 18 September, Daniel Benjamin White, 29, of School Court, Kirdford, was convicted at Hove Crown Court of engaging in sexual activity with a child known to him in Chichester where he then lived.

The Jury heard how White first had sex with the girl when she was under the age of 16.

Detective Constable David Midgley of West Sussex CID said: “White had told the girl to keep their relationship a secret and this continued for nearly 14 months. A compelling case was presented to the court, the Jury unanimously found White guilty and he was sentenced to three years imprisonment.

“The victim in this case was a child and the Justice System will continue to protect her as she is granted anonymity for life. It is an offence for anyone to publish her identity, which includes on social media. Daniel White is now required to register as a sex offender indefinitely on his release, so after he has served his prison sentence, Sussex Police will supervise him closely to ensure the safety of the public.

“The Court also issued him with a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO), which will restrict his access to young girls and women, and will prevent further contact with the victim”
