Husband’s ashes scattered around home in Horsham burglary

An urn has been smashed and ashes scattered around a Horsham home which was targeted by thieves who stole treasured family possessions.

The burglaries in Beech Road took place at two adjacent homes between 1pm and 7pm on Thursday December 12.

One of the victims who was recently widowed had jewellery stolen that belonged to her deceased husband. This included several watches and gold necklaces, and her own diamond engagement ring.

Detective constable Stuart Streeter said: “Not only have the thieves stolen her late husband’s treasured possessions but they also smashed the urn containing his ashes, which were found scattered in the house. This has been very distressing and traumatic for the victim who is still trying to come to terms with this incident.

“We would like to hear from anyone with information about these despicable offences, especially people in and around the area at the time who heard or saw anything unusual or suspicious.”

A £500 reward is being offered by police for anyone with information leading to the successful prosecution of the offender or offenders.
