Horsham suffers rise in daylight burglaries

A RISE in the number of daylight burglaries has been reported by Horsham Police today.

Officers are urging homeowners to ensure their doors and windows are locked after a spate of thefts from properties taking place between lunch time and early evening.

Detached homes set back from the road or hidden behind hedges have been mainly targeted for jewellery, say police.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: “Leave a light on if you will not be home before dark or, to save electricity, you can set up a lamp or two with timer switches that can be purchased from DIY stores for only about £5.

“Take photos of any distinctive items of jewellery so that if it is stolen we can provide local jewellers with a copy and ask them to call the police if someone tries to sell it to them. Take a note of serial numbers.”

Anyone with information regarding previous incidents can contact police on 101.
