The 58-year-old man from Dorking who was driving the Saab suffered cuts and whiplash. His 47-year-old female passenger, also from Dorking, suffered a fractured breastbone.

PC Ben Henwood said: “I need to speak to anyone who saw the tree in the road before the collision or saw the cars crash but who has not yet come forward.

“I also need to find out who cut the tree down. If you know who was responsible or when it happened, please contact me.”
