An elderly woman from Horsham has been scammed out of 10,000 euros by telephone fraudsters, according to Horsham police.

The woman, aged 79, received a call on her home telephone asking her to withdraw money at two bureau de changes locally.

The scammers then came and picked up the money, police said.

Police have reminded residents to remain vigilant in the wake of a number of scams in recent months.

A spokesperson for Horsham police said: “Please be aware that these people are trying to trick people out of their life savings every single day.

“Do not take out money from banks/building societies, or indeed transfer moneys. We had another four attempts over the weekend, with one person handing over the money.”

Anyone with information can contact police on 101 quoting Operation Edisto.
