The Horsham Neighbourhood Policing Team is launching Operation Tulip at Squires Garden Centre, Washington, and Hillier Garden Centre, Horsham between 11am-3pm on Sunday March 8.

Operation Tulip has been set up to help local residents prevent theft from their gardens and properties within the Horsham District this spring.

The same session will also be running at the Old Barn Nurseries, Dial Post and Newbridge Nurseries, Broadbridge Heath between 11am-3pm on Sunday March 22.

Residents are urged to attend these sessions to learn about preventing outdoor property theft this spring as the weather warms up.

Some of the simple ways to keep your outdoor property safe is to install motion sensory lighting to illuminate both the front and back garden.

Install gravel paving that crunches underfoot to act as a deterrent to thieves.

Other ways include ensuring all tools and equipment are securely stored and all garden shed and garage doors are securely locked.

Bicycles should be secured to an anchor point with a security lock.

It is advised that all padlocks should be at least 6cm / 2.5ins wide, of hardened steel, have at least 5 pins and be a closed shackle type.

Residents can also take photographs of valuable garden ornaments and register their property at www.immobilise.com free, to enhance the chances of retrieving stolen items.
