Repairs costing upwards of £1000 will need to be spent after vandals damaged a popular children’s play area in Southwater.

Damage was caused to two large eggs at Dinosaur Island in Southwater Country Park on Tuesday April 26 or Wednesday April 27, police said.

The fibreglass eggs were left with sharp, jagged edges - meaning immediate repairs are needed.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said the cost of repair or replacement is more than £1000.

Police are investigating the vandalism and have urged anyone with information to contact them.

They can do so by emailing or calling 101, quoting serial 665 of 27/04.

Alternatively, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 (

Dinosaur Island was unveiled to much fanfare in July 2015 and has proved popular among youngsters and parents alike.

Horsham District Council previously approved a budget of £179,000 to develop the area into the adventure park.
