Axe or hatchet used to smash car’s windscreen in Horsham

An object believed to be a small axe or hatchet was used to damage a car and a man was assaulted in Horsham on Sunday August 16.

Police were called about the incident in Windrum Close at about 4.35pm.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said a man had been assaulted by another man, and the windscreen of a black Volkswagen Golf parked nearby had been smashed.

The spokesperson added: “A man drove off in a blue Renault Clio but later handed himself in.”

A 40-year-old man from Billingshurst has been arrested on suspicion of common assault and causing criminal damage.

He has also been arrested on suspicion of driving without insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with his licence.

The man has been bailed until September 9.
