Arrests follow Ashington break-in

TWO men were found hiding in a hedge and arrested on suspicion of burglary following the break in and theft of batteries from the Co-op in London Road, Ashington, Pulborough in the very early hours of this morning (Monday April 9).

Police went to the scene of the burglary at around 4.10am following reports of suspicious activity from members of the public living nearby.

When officers arrived they discovered that the front window of the store had been smashed.

An area search was launched and a nearby traffic unit located a suspect vehicle parked in a driveway in Ashington, a holdall containing batteries was spotted lying in the front garden and officers noticed damage to a nearby fence.

A search of neighbouring gardens revealed the two suspects hiding in a thick hedge to the rear of one of the properties.

A 27-year-old man from Littlehampton and a 40-year-old man from Shoreham remain in custody for questioning.
