County travel news: safety work starts

DRIVERS are being warned over possible hold-ups as road safety and improvement work near Petworth starts.

The second phase of a road safety and improvement scheme on the A285 Beechwood Lane in Duncton, near Petworth, has begun.

The £60,000 West Sussex County Council work will involve widening the road and drainage improvements including repairing and unblocking and installing new pipes.

The scheme is scheduled to take up to four weeks to complete, weather permitting. It will be carried out Monday to Friday, from 7.30am to 5pm.

Temporary two-way and three-way traffic signals will be in operation for the duration of the scheme.

A new speed limit was introduced on the road last month and work to install signs was also carried out.

Further road safety work will take place in May.
