COUNTY NEWS: Nine charged as part of drink and drug-driving clampdown

Nine motorists have been charged as part of a police operation to crack down on drink and drug-drivers.

Daniel Foster, 25, was arrested at 1.10am on June 13 after officers stopped his car in South Street, Tarring, because it did not appear to have a valid MOT.

Foster, of Mulberry Lane, Worthing, was charged with drink-driving and released on bail to appear at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on June 30.

Samuel Doman, 24, was arrested at 4am on June 13 after his car almost hit a police patrol car in Offington gardens, Worthing.

Doman, of Nepcote, Findon, was charged with drink-driving and released on bail to appear at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on June 30.

Thomas Lowe, 24, was arrested at 11.45pm on June 13 after his Volkswagen Golf was stopped on the A27 at Chichester.

Lowe, of Cherry Orchard Road, Chichester, was charged with drink-driving and driving without insurance. He was released on bail to appear at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on July 9.

Rashid Mustafa, 39, was arrested at 2am on June 14 after officers were given information that he could be drink-driving.

Mustafa, of Weald Drive, Crawley, was charged with drink-driving and released on bail to appear at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on June 29.

Liam Cooper, 20, was arrested at 2.40am on June 13 after officers stopped his car on the A22 at Uckfield on suspicion that he had no insurance.

Lynn-Marie Pheasant, 40, was arrested at 8.30pm on June 13 in Hillside Avenue, Seaford, after officers were tipped off that a woman who appeared drunk had driven away from a takeaway.

Pheasant, of Willow Drive, Seaford, was charged with drink-driving and released on bail to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on June 29.

Eugene Cooke, 45, was arrested at 11.10pm on June 13 after he was seen driving around the Camber Sands Leisure Park car park.

Cooke, of Quarrington Road, Bristol, was charged with failing to provide a specimen for analysis and released on bail to appear at Hastings Magistrates’ Court on July 1.

Cooper, of Mount Pleasant, Crowborough, was charged with drink-driving, taking a vehicle without consent, driving without a licence and driving without insurance. He was released on bail to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on June 29.

Luke Wood, 23, was arrested at 5.15am on June 14 after he was stopped in Grand Parade, Brighton, because one of his car lights was not working.

Wood, of Shelldale Crescent, Portslade, was charged with drink-driving and released on bail to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on June 29.

A total of 55 people have so far been charged with offences as part of Operation Dragonfly, Sussex Police’s June drink and drug-driving operation.

As part of Operation Dragonfly, road policing unit officers are on dedicated patrols looking for offenders.

Teams are responding to tip-offs from members of the public who see someone they know has been drinking getting into a car to drive.

Stop checks are also being set up at locations across Sussex and Surrey, in particular at locations where there is intelligence that there has been a history of drink-driving.

People in Sussex can text officers on 65999 with the details of people they suspect of drink or drug driving or visit www.operationcrackdown.co.uk or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
