Last week, the County Times revealed plans to build a multiplex, four restaurants and a large new retail unit in Swan Walk shopping centre.

Ray Dawe (Con, Chantry) said the scheme would ‘further increase the vibrancy of Horsham town centre’ but stressed the proposal will be thoroughly considered by councillors.

He said: “News that Horsham could see a new multiplex cinema, new restaurants and a large new retail unit in Swan Walk is a very positive sign of the district’s prosperity and would further increase the vibrancy of Horsham’s town centre.

“The development would expand the town’s leisure and culture offering, giving residents and visitors a wider choice of how to spend their time.

“We will need to consider all aspects of the proposal when the planning application is made and we will consult in due course with interested parties, local businesses and residents to get feedback.”

A two-day public consultation was held in the shopping centre on Friday and Saturday, where residents were able to quiz developers about the project.

Work is set to begin on the part-redevelopment of the western end of the shopping centre in April 2018, subject to councillors giving the green light to the scheme.
