Class of '˜16 awards evening

The Forest School welcomed back old faces last week as the '˜Class of 2016' returned for the annual Awards Evening celebration.

Joining them was guest speaker Mr Murray Schofield, an ex-pupil of Forest. After leaving Forest in 2008 Murray went on to Collyer’s then Birmingham University. After graduating with a 1st class degree in Physics, he went on to work in engineering, helping to pioneer energy saving techniques for vehicles.

In 2015 Murray founded a technology company, Halo Electronics, who will start selling their first product, the Ozzalite Case, early in 2017. He congratulated the young men on their outstanding achievements and offered them some words of wisdom as they move on to the next stage of their education and careers.

Highlights of the evening included three pupils who were presented with the maximum three awards, Richard Potter and Ben Sanderson with Dan Butler who was presented with The University of Brighton Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement for his superb exam results.

Mr Gareth Good, Senior Assistant Headteacher said “Every year we have a high number of boys who achieve exceptional GCSE and higher level exam results but Dan truly deserved this accolade achieving the equivalent of 15 A*/A grades.”

The Awards Evening also recognises those pupils who make exceptional progress, and the Frank Newby Award for outstanding progress went to Afil Sonny.

Headteacher Ms Denning said of the evening “It was a lovely, joyous event. I am always so proud on this evening; it is such a special occasion where the school community can celebrate every pupil’s achievements.”

She went on to add: “These young men will always be Forest boys; we wish all of them the very best for their futures.”
