Around 60 guests attended the event at the South Lodge Hotel, Horsham, which included a welcome drink and two course lunch.

“Dame Vera Lynn brings me to Horsham for her charity and I’ve been involved in this for what must be around five or six years,” explained the 64-year-old.

“Nowadays it’s difficult for all charities big and small to make any money so anything that people can do like myself is greatly appreciated because raising funds is so difficult.”

The lunch, held between 12 noon and 3pm, included talks about the charity and Christopher’s life stories.

Christopher presented a speech and clips of his time during I’m A Celebrity Get me Out of Here in 2007 when he was crowned king of the jungle.

There was also an auction and a raffle to round of the afternoon.

“This particular charity of Vera’s is all to do with children for cerebral palsy and is important because there are so many charities like these that can get forgotten,” he added.

“I also have a personal charity Hope Foundation which helps children in India and I’m Barnado’s ambassador and I do a lot of work for the variety club. A lot of charities rely on people like myself.”

The actor, who starred alongside Ronnie Barker in the comedy Porridge, is often in Sussex for events such as judging best dressed woman at Hickstead earlier this year.

“I also do a lot of charities in Brighton so I come down quite a bit so a lot of people think I live in Brighton but I don’t,” he continued.

“I spent three years doing pantomimes there and have a lot of friends in Brighton.”

He is now set to play Dame Trot in Christmas pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk later this year.

He added: “I’m also doing lots of bits and pieces on television at the moment and lots of quizzes so that’s a lot of fun and it’s all very busy which is good”
