Charity recruiting daredevils to join anniversary abseil

The charity is honoured to have been granted special access to Arundel Castle, one of the longest inhabited country houses in England. It now needs to recruit as many supporters as possible to enjoy this rare fundraising opportunity - and generate vital funds to help more bereaved children across the region.

Those who take the plunge and sign up to tackle the 180ft abseil will enjoy magnificent views across the South Downs and the River Arun as they descend the 11th century walls.

Between the 1870s and 1890s the house was almost completely rebuilt and the magnificent architecture in Gothic style is considered to be one of the great works of Victorian England.

The event takes place on Saturday, 12th March and there will be two lines available during both morning and afternoon sessions.

This is set to be a highlight of numerous fundraising events taking place throughout 2016 to mark the charity’s major milestone in West Sussex.

The Horsham-based team was launched in 2006 and has gone from strength to strength. It now offers monthly drop-in support sessions in Chichester and fortnightly sessions in Uckfield, in addition to a full range of programmes and initiatives aimed at helping bereaved young people and their families.

Leigh-Beth Stroud, Community Fundraiser at Winston’s Wish in West Sussex, said: “This is such an amazing opportunity for Winston’s Wish to be allowed access to Arundel Castle and start our 10th anniversary year with this special event.”

Each year, Winston’s Wish reaches more than 40,000 bereaved children and young people through an array of dedicated services. These specialist support programmes include support following death as a result of accident, illness, homicide, suicide and military service.
