Carol singing in town for charity collection

Today (Thursday December 10) Age UK Horsham District will be holding a street collection in Horsham Carfax and singing Christmas Carols to help shoppers get into the festive spirit.

Some of the older people who benefit from Age UK Horsham District services and some of their volunteers will kick start the festive singing in the morning, followed by Christ’s Hospital Choral Society, Holbrook Guides and Age UK Horsham District staff.

Janice Leeming, chief executive officer says: “We are delighted that local groups are supporting us in a day of carol singing.

“Thursday is the Farmers Market and also a late night shopping evening so this will be a fantastic opportunity for shoppers in the town centre to enjoy a musical interlude and support our collection.

“Local residents who would like to support us by lending their voice to our choir in the afternoon are all welcome and we are very excited about the community coming together to raise money to help Age UK Horsham District help local older people this winter.”

Age UK Horsham District provides many services to ensure older people are getting the help they need, such as their home visiting and information and advice services helping people remain independent and healthy.

Many of these services are completely free and money raised through the collection and carol singing, as well as their recent Christmas Fayre, will help them to continue in the future.

Janice added: “We had a really successful Christmas Fayre on November 21 which raised just over £1,300, and would like to thank all volunteers and supporters who helped and attended. The Fayre was a great opportunity for people to start their Christmas shopping and it too had a musical theme.”

Age UK Horsham District’s resident pianist, Ken Harvey, was getting everyone in the mood for Christmas with his festive selection of Christmas favourites, and will also be playing on 10th December!

If you are interested in singing along with us please meet us by the Christmas tree in the Carfax between 11am and 12pm or 4.30pm and 5.30pm on the day or contact the fundraising Team at Age UK Horsham District on 01403 751304.
