Organisers of the increasingly popular Ashington Festival have promised a huge event this year on Saturday (August 15).
The carnival will see floats, walking groups and three marching bands all lead by the Ashington Carnival Princess.
The ‘Northover Fuels Stage and Arena’ will have a great mix of acts throughout the afternoon and evening.
During the day Jez Avery will be hopping on his daredevil motorbike for a stunt show (sponsored by Ashington Autos) and a breath-taking wild west whip and lasso act.
Back by popular demand, Saxon Weald will present children’s entertainer Tom Foolery.
The event will also see the Harris Brothers Funfair, dog show, car boot sale, flower show, classic cars, crafts, charity, animal stalls and sideshows. Moving into the evening, there will be non-stop 70s’ and 80s’ hits.
You can also practice your best moonwalk with the Michael Jackson ‘Triumph’ tribute act (sponsored by Cubitt & West).
Thai, pizzas, jacket potatoes, crepes, burgers and doughnuts are just some of the tasty treats on offer. There will also be a licensed bar.
The carnival procession will commence at 1.30pm in Foster Lane and route via The Sands, Rectory Lane, London Road and Church Lane.
There will be no parking along one side of Foster Lane, The Sands, Rectory Lane and Church Lane.
Road closures will be in place on Foster Lane from 12pm to 2.30pm, the bottom of the Sands from 12pm to 4pm and the remainder of the route from 1.30pm to 2.30pm.
A free car park, provided by Harris Brothers Fair, will be available under the bridge at the bottom of the village. This will be signposted from both directions on the A24.
Disabled parking, for blue badge holders, will be available in the Scout Hall car park in Church Lane or in The Community Centre’s car park in Foster Lane.
