Careers advisors take the next step

Five local Careers Advisors have passed their Level 4 Diploma in Information, Advice and Guidance.

The successful candidates were: Lucy Hargreaves (Collyer’s), Christy Harper (Horsham Matters), Sally Leyshon (Esher College), Beth Mulligan (Forest School), and Sue Tye (Collyer’s).

The careers professionals studied for a year, in a course comprising tasks on guidance legislation, integration with the curriculum and networking. All were observed in their role and given feedback.

Course Tutor Mel Hargreaves, explained: “It is so important that those giving advice and guidance are up to date and have the resources to share best practice. It was a great opportunity to discuss different techniques and to ensure compliance within relevant quality frameworks.”

Beth Mulligan, Forest School’s Careers Coordinator, said: “With the removal of Connexions there is limited support for young people and so offering the best advice in schools is vital.

This course made me think about what Ofsted are looking for and how I can demonstrate the impact we have on our pupils.”

Collyer’s Deputy Principal Steve Nicholls was delighted with the candidates’ success: “Offering appropriate advice and guidance to pupils and students is an integral part of managing learners’ progression routes. Massive congratulations to Lucy, Christy, Sally, Beth and Sue. Feedback from Mel has been outstanding and they are all a credit to their respective organisations.”
