National Pizza Day was a real treat at Westlake House in Horsham, where staff and residents marked the occasion by getting out their aprons and kneading the dough to make home-made pizzas.
The week, organised by Foodism Magazine, is a celebration of all things pizza-related, and is the perfect excuse to get everybody together for a pizza topping party.
Our chef, Diane Mancini said: “It gives me great joy and pleasure to be able to cook these traditional meals and involving residents who wish to participate in the food preparations.
“Everyone chose their tasty toppings. Encouraging residents to eat wholesome and seasonal diet which they enjoy, help them lead happy and healthy lives, but today we all enjoyed a special treat of home- made pizzas.”
Many residents at Westlake House personalised their own pizzas with a selection of healthy, tasty treats, including list of toppings such as ham, cheese, mushrooms and mixed peppers.
Speaking at the event, one resident added: “I really like living here because there are always lots of interesting activities.
“I loved the pizza making today but I’m also looking forward to the forthcoming events of Pancake Day on February 13, National Nest box on February 14 and the celebrations of Chinese New Year in style on the February 16.
“I get my own weekly activity planner and the girls remind me everyday what’s going on which is really good.”
Elizabeth Higson, general manager at Westlake House said: “There are a lot of enthusiastic foodies at this home who got stuck in covering their home-made pizzas with their favourite ingredients.
“There were a lot of different types of toppings to choose from and we were all spoilt for choice. Our pizza party turned out to be a real slice!”
