Car wash raises record funds for the RBL

Despite near washout conditions, Steyning's 1140 Air Cadet Squadron braved the rain to raise a record amount for the Royal British Legion at their annual charity car wash on November 12 weekend.

The event, held at Mayberry Garden Centre in Portslade, raised over £350 despite some of the worst rainfall in recent weeks.

The cadets were washing vehicles belonging to visitors to the family run Tate’s garden centre in return for a donation, which was presented to the Legion at the Remembrance parade the next day.

Mayberry’s Manager Mark Brumfitt said: “The cadets did a great job despite the weather and I would like to thank all our customers who supported them to raise a great amount for a superb cause. Hopefully next year might be a little drier!”
