Cannabis smell forces Gatwick plane to turn around

A British Airways flight from Gatwick was forced to make a mid-air u-turn yesterday because of a smell of cannabis on board.

The plane set off for Greece, however was met by fire crews when it returned as the pilot wanted to turn back as a precaution.

BA have said that there was no evidence of anyone smoking or carrying any drugs on board.

A spokesperson said: “Our pilot returned the aircraft to Gatwick as a precaution following reports of an unidentified strong smell in the cabin.

“We are sorry for the delay to our customers’ journeys.”
