A meeting is due to be held this evening by campaigners opposing plans for an ‘incinerator’ near Horsham.
Proposals were unveiled by Britaniacrest Recycling last month to build a new Recycling, Recovery and Renewable Energy Facility at the former Wealden Brickworks site, off Langhurst Wood Road.
It would see a new plant created which would recycle as much waste as possible, while turning the rest into renewable energy.
Many residents are opposed to the plans and a campaign group has been set up to stop the development.
A Facebook page entitled noincinerator4horsham has been launched and a public meeting is to be held at 7.30pm this evening at Warnham Parish Hall to discuss the issue.
Sally Pavey, a trustee of CPRE which is opposing the development, said: “It always seems that our area of West Sussex is the dumping ground, first it was an incinerator in Capel, the Surrey Sussex border, then it was new flight paths from Gatwick Airport, then Gatwick expansion and now a massive carbuncle of an incinerator amongst housing that will be seen from the pretty rural parishes of Warnham and Rusper. We have to stand up once again and say NO as we did to Gatwick Airport.”
Britaniacrest held a public exhibition at Roffey’s Millennium Hall in October outlining its proposals.
