Call for underpasses to be added in the north Horsham area

Roads north of the town centre near the site of the proposed development for around 2,500 homes must be improved before planned new homes are built, county councillors have warned.

The issue was discussed at West Sussex County Council’s North Horsham County Local Committee on Monday March 9.

Liz Kitchen (Con, Warnham and Rusper) said: “There is nowhere near enough infrastructure for the whole of this development. I think the infrastructure should come in first, before the development.

“Personally I am worried about the whole thing. I think it has been badly thought out.”

Representatives from Horsham Cycle Forum stated the current status of the A264 junctions to the development site must be considered, and argued underpasses must be installed.

Nigel Dennis (LDem, Horsham Hurst) agreed cycling facilities are important within the development plan.

He said: “It is not really a sustainable location, it is a long way from the centre of town and for that reason cycling facilities seem to be of greater importance there than they would be perhaps in other development locations around the district.”

Brad Watson (Con, Southwater and Nuthurst) said: “We have been very concerned over the last couple of years about the development.

“There is no plan or vision about what is happening to the roads.”
