Call for more foster carers

West Sussex County Council urgently needs to recruit more foster carers in Storrington because of the rising number of West Sussex children needing foster care.

West Sussex County Council is holding a fostering drop-in session at Storrington Library on Tuesday, April 19 from 10.00am to 4pm as part of a recruitment drive to sign up more carers - currently there are eight foster carers in the area.

These informal sessions give people a chance to chat to existing foster carers and members of the highly experienced team to allay fears and answer any questions people may have about fostering.

Local Storrington foster carer, Pat Tilzey says: “If you’ve ever thought about fostering, come down to the event so you can meet and talk to other foster carers. Unless you are fully informed then you can’t tell if it’s what you want to do.

“I’ve been a foster carer for 20 years and yes, it is a challenge but it is so rewarding when you see a child blossom before your eyes.”

Cabinet Member for Children and Families, Peter Evans, said: “To provide the highest standard of care, West Sussex County Council does its very best to match West Sussex children needing care to West Sussex foster carers.

“Children thrive on familiarity so our approach also means children and young people who need care stay close to their school, friends, people and places they know.”

West Sussex County Council makes sure a full package of training and support is provided to all its foster carers to meet the needs of the children and young people they care for.
