Cabinet member to hold ‘Live Facebook Chat’ on Broadbridge Heath Quadrant plans

Jonathan Chowen (Con, Cowfold, Shermanbury and West Grinstead), Horsham District Council’s cabinet member for arts, heritage, and leisure will be answering the public’s questions during a ‘Live Facebook Chat’ from 6-7pm.

Last month HDC unveiled proposals for the future of the quadrant, which include a new leisure centre, medical centre, up to 200 apartments, new retail and restaurant units, and a hotel.

However members of the Horsham Indoor Bowls Club have bombarded the County Times with letters expressing their anger at the loss of their current home.

Questions can be sent during the live chat or beforehand to [email protected] and these will be posted online and put to Mr Chowen during the chat.

He said: “A lot of work has gone into examining ways in which we can meet the aspirations of the local community, local sports clubs and national sporting bodies with whom we have had an ongoing dialogue, building on the extensive consultation that took place in 2012.

“We are now getting closer to delivering a really exciting project at the heart of which will be enhanced leisure facilities fit for the twenty first century. There is still a lot of work to be done and I am keen to hear from and work with local groups and representatives of users of the existing centre as we refine these ideas and prepare our final proposals.

“When we have an agreed plan we will ensure that we keep the existing centre and running track in operation until we are ready to open the new facilities. I am hopeful that the new track could be completed next year and the centre by 2016.”
