Busy few weeks for the life-savers

It has proved a very busy few weeks for members of Horsham Life Saving Club and the run in to Christmas promises to be just as hectic.

A small number of parents, parents to be and grandparents took part in an evening Baby Save Course and learned how to deal with a baby who has topped breathing or was choking.

Two days later David Slade and Robin Akers won gold and silver medals in their respective Masters events at the Royal Life Saving Society South East Region Lifesaving Competition held at Dagenham and thus qualified for the national Finals to be held in Sheffield in November.

The following day they were both at Shoreham Harbour acting as supervisor and a ‘casualty’ for members of Worthing Lifesaving Club who were taking an Open Water Supervisors Examination.

Last Saturday 6 members of the club received awards at the RLSS Presentation of National Honours held at The London Guildhall and were delighted to have these presented by Sharon Davies MBE. She gave a fascinating address to all the recipients and afterwards the younger club members got to speak again and had their photo taken with her and her Olympic Torch. The October new class started last week and there are still some subsidised spaces available if you are quick.

Two hours a week learning survival and rescue skills at a cost less than you pay for a public swim up and down the pool has to be worth doing surely !
