A popular brownie startup company from Horsham is celebrating a big contract from a local restaurant a year into trading.

Just Brownies owner Sarah Westall, a regular fixture for many on both Twitter and Horsham Market will see her brownies sold in Denne Road’s Carmela’s.

After baking for a few friends, her passion for food has attracted awards and several contracts to supply Horsham businesses.

She explained: “It’s been an amazing year. I started baking and hoped that people would like my brownies, but I’d never have predicted this level of success. People have really taken my brownies to heart, demonstrated in the repeat orders.”

Her latest success is a contact to supply Carmela Restaurant with their very own exclusive Sicilian style brownie for their dessert menu, called ‘Conca d’oro’.

The brownie, made using ricotta and lemons, is warmed and served with vanilla ice cream, toffee sauce and crushed pistachios.

Sarah added: “I always loved eating at Carmela’s but to see my brownies on the menu is brilliant. It’s a fab restaurant and one I’m so proud to supply.”

As well as receiving a 400th order, she has been shortlisted for the Sussex Food & Drink Awards.

Sarah identifies a few reasons for her success beyond the brownies themselves.

She explained: “I’ve invested in a new website that was designed by a local company, that, and lots of social media activity, is seeing a real rise in the orders received online.

“Last year I chose to start selling at Horsham Market, which has been fantastic – I’ve met lots of great people, taken lots of inspiration from customers’ suggestions for new flavours and loved meeting the people that enjoy the products – something you never get from online sales.”
