Cowfold is to get a ‘hosted outreach’ post office on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while the Post Office seeks a new permanent site in the village.
Post Office services will be offered at The Weald Community Church, The Smithy, Bolney Road, Cowfold, RH13 8AA, at set times each week.
It will be operated by the postmaster from Alford Post Office, who will visit every Tuesday and Thursday between 2pm and 4.30pm.
The previous Cowfold Post Office - just across the road from the new site - closed on August 7 when popular postmistress Ros Daly retired.
A statement from the Post Office Ltd said: “To maintain local access to Post Office services for our customers in this area, we are aiming to open the branch as a temporary hosted outreach service on Thursday 24 September at 2pm. We are also looking for a more permanent solution for the village.
“The same range of services as previously will be available at the hosted outreach service with the exclusion of car tax renewal.
“Customers can still collect benefits in cash using our everyday banking services or Post Office card account.”
Caroline Hoare, field change advisor said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Cowfold and we are confident this new service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”
