DOG owners were given free cats-eye style reflective jackets by local employer MORE TH>N in Horsham Park on Friday.
It was all part of a campaign by the insurance firm to raise awareness of dogs being seen on roads during dark winter nights.
Findings show that there was a 59 per cent spike in claims involving dogs in road accidents between November and January, compared to the previous three months.
Horsham was chosen as one of the six towns and cities across the UK where the insurance firm has been promoting road safety during national Road Safety Week from November 21 - 27.
MORE TH>N spokesperson John Ellenger said: “It’s an unfortunate fact that during the dark winter days our dogs are not as visible to motorists. However, a simple reflective jacket can help make all the difference in pets being seen.”
