Horsham businesses called on to export into China

SMALL businesses in Horsham hoping to crack into the overseas market are being offered a helping hand to export to China by a prominent UK manufacturing trade association.

The PPMA Group of Associations, a non-profit making group representing UK manufacturing is offering their Dragon Service to Horsham manufacturers looking to export to China.

The service which has previously only been open to its members, enables a manufacturer to ‘dip their toe in the water’ in China with very little risk and at minimal cost.

The PPMA will employ on their own payroll a member of staff to operate for a manufacturer and will handle all Chinese HR and employment issues.

The employee would be re-charged at cost and a small share of the Chinese office overhead. This model also enables the exporter to enter or exit the Chinese market with only one month’s notice and at very little cost.

Chris Buxton, CEO of the PPMA Group, said: “This has proved very popular and effective for our members as an extremely low cost and low risk method of getting exporters into China - a lucrative market that many manufacturers wish to expand into but are either not sure how, or are put off by large market entry costs such as securing office premises etc. We would like to hear from any Horsham manufacturers wishing to explore these markets.”

Charles Lee, managing director of Matcon, a UK manufacturer in the engineering sector, said: “we entered this market via the PPMA Dragon Service and we now have almost £4 million worth of contracts from China. The service has provided Matcon with an extremely cost effective way of entering the Chinese market and with very little risk, we now have five people working out of China and it has proved to be an excellent strategy for Matcon.”

The PPMA would like to hear from any manufacturer in Horsham that wishes to explore this option. The Dragon service also offers companies chaperoned assistance to China - further details on www.ppma.co.uk/china/china-office.html or interested companies should call Grant Collier on 020 8773 8111 or email grant.collier@ppma.co.uk
