Billingshurst ‘Hambassador’ receives his pay

“Meat - I want it now!” said three year old Finley, the son of our district’s very own Hambassador when he received his first consignment of pork this week.

Chris Doney from Billingshurst has had a few weeks to familiarise himself with his new status, after Jimmy Doherty, famed for TV programmes such as Jimmy’s Food factory, bestowed the title upon him last month.

The 29-year-old is one of only four ‘Hambassadors’ nationwide, charged with helping to promote the Red Tractor brand and Lovepork.co.uk, which Chris is doing by producing YouTube videos with his family.

When the County Times first grilled the pork promoter he admitted to receiving a bit of rib-tickling from his mates. But has it continued?

“It is funny really,” said Chris, “you always get a bit of banter, and I do get the odd ‘You spoil us Hambassador’.

“Most people are just trying to invite themselves round for dinner though,” added the Groomsland Drive resident who received an impressive hall of cuts and sausages recently, including; 1kg rolled leg of pork joint, 1kg rolled shoulder pork joint, 1kg rolled unsmoked gamon joint, 500gm lean diced pork, 500gm unsmoked back bacon, 2 packs of home made pork sausages (various flavours), 4 pork chops and 4 pork loin steaks.

“I feel pretty rich in pork terms,” said Chris, whose family were all excited when the first consignment arrived.

“I should be getting another delivery in January but this should see me through!”
