A spokesperson for Berkeley Strategic said: “As part of the preparation of Horsham District Council’s draft Planning Framework (local plan), we were asked to present to the council’s strategic planning advisory group how our proposed development to the west of Southwater could help to meet the district’s future housing needs.
“Other developers promoting other potential development sites also presented proposals to the group. This is part of a long and consultative process that has involved and will continue to involve local communities.
“There is a huge demand for new housing in this area and the council needs to allocate land for new homes in its local plan.
“We feel that the area to the west of Southwater is ideally suited to help meet this demand and reduce development pressure on other parts of the district.
“Local people have told the council that any development in the district needs to be accompanied by a good level of community infrastructure.
“The comprehensive development proposal for the area to the west of Southwater will deliver an increased range of community facilities, including the land and funding for a new secondary school, as well as improved sports facilities and major transport infrastructure improvements.”
