Baby boy keeps family waiting until new year

Just five hours and 45 minutes into 2013 and Horsham had one of it’s newest residents in the form of 6lb 14oz baby Bobby - six days after he was due.

He is believed to be the fourth New Year’s Day baby of 12 to be delivered at East Surrey Hosto parents Chris and Chrissy Southall.

“It was a bit of an unexpected labour really. He was due on Boxing Day but he kept us waiting,” said first-time mother Chrissy, 25.

“We went in just for a check up on New Year’s Eve but they decided to induce me. It progressed quite quickly and I ended up in emergency caesarean because he had bad heart decelerations.

“He wouldn’t have survived labour if I’d gone through it all the way, the hospital were amazing and I can’t thank them enough.”

The proud parents, who were Forest and Millais students, have been together for six years after meeting at Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre where they both worked.

Father Chris, 25, said: “We bought our first house last April, got married in July and then had a baby at the end of the year.

“I can’t remember what we did without him. He’s a bundle of joy and I’ve wasted so much time just looking at him. ”

Bobby is now settling in at his Manor Fields home.

Chrissy’s mother, Jill Tyler, who lives in Lambs Farm Road, said: “We’re absolutely delighted. It’s my sixth grandchild and it was the best New Year’s that could have happened to us.”

Only one girl was born of the 12 babies delivered at East Surrey Hospital that day with three from Horsham, three from Crawley and six from Surrey.

Chrissy said: “The quick decisions of the team at the hospital were just brilliant.”

Chris added: “They’re really special people and we’d also like to thank everyone for all the support, cards and presents.”
