Against all odds Amberley’s Village Party went ahead despite a last minute switch of venue to Millenium Green due to a waterlogged cricket field last Saturday June 16.
When gale force winds almost blew the giant marquee away during the afternoon, the organisers were having to consider the possibility of cancelling the event on health and safety grounds.
However, the wind dropped and more than 300 people enjoyed a full evening’s entertainment, which included performances by the Strictly Amberley ballroom dance team, Thakeham Morris Men and Amberley’s famous belly dancers. There was also dancing to a live band – Tracey and the Hazards.
Prior to the main party, a reception was held for all those born in 1952 or before.
Sponsored by Guy Leonard Estate Agents and supported by a number of generous donations by residents, the function was attended by about 70 people, who also enjoyed a short recital by Amberley Village Singers, led by Katie Ohno.
Organised by Tony Blunden, this year’s Village Party was generally deemed to be one of the most successful in recent years.
