Alert sounded after thieves target parked cars near Storrington

Dog walkers are being urged to be on the alert after thieves smashed the windows of a car parked in a country lane at Shipley on Monday morning.

The incident was discovered at around 11am when a woman out walking her dogs returned to her vehicle parked in Hooklands Lane, Shipley. “I walk there almost every day,” she said. “It was really horrible coming back and finding things had been rifled through.”

A police spokesman said: “At 11am on Monday (26 November) a woman reported that, having parked her car in Hooklands Lane, Shipley, some 40 minutes earlier in order to walk her dog, she returned to find that the vehicle’s front nearside and rear offside windows had been smashed.

“Although it appeared the interior may have been searched, nothing was stolen.”

Meanwhile, Horsham police are warning that there have been a spate of car break-ins around Kithurst Hill, Storrington. A spokesman said: “Please make sure your car is secure and that you don’t leave any valuables on show.”
