First ever comedy festival starts

Guildford’s Electric Theatre hosts its first-ever comedy festival from Friday-Sunday, October 5-7.

Spokeswoman Caroline Bennett said: “We are thrilled to be welcoming back past comedy club favourites and some exciting and exclusive headliners. The rumour mill has been churning at full power but now we can reveal who will be taking part in what promises to be a sell-out celebration of all things funny.”

Things kick off with Friday Night On The Cheap (Friday, October 5, 7.45pm, tickets £9 advance, £10 on the night).

“We’ve brought together some of the best acts from our regular comedy nights, mixed them with great drinks promotions and voila – your best Friday night out ever! Headlining will be One Show regular Mitch Benn, supported by Bryan O’Gorman, Graham Whistler and Chris Norton Walker.”

Saturday offers the Comedy Newcomer Competition (October 6, 7.30pm, tickets £10): “Your comedy club needs you. Six comedians are vying for the title of electric comedy newcomer. Help our panel of judges decide.”

Other events:

Expect the unexpected from the man whose classic lines include ‘the pollen count...it’s a difficult job’ and ‘the pope likes cats ... he’s a cat-ha-holic’.

/blob/ Sunday Supper Club with Frisky & Mannish, Sunday, October 7, 7.45pm: “It’s Sunday evening so sit back, but don’t dare relax. We’re thrilled to welcome comedy’s most exciting and slightly-disturbing musical duo. Hot on the success of their Udderbelly shows, Frisky & Mannish are inventive, unnerving and very, very funny.” Tickets on 01483 444789 or visit www.electrictheatre.co.uk.
