Celebration of Johann Strauss

The show is a celebration of Johann Strauss including vignettes from the operettas Gypsy Baron, Die Fledermaus, the lesser-known Night in Venice and the music of Kalman and Lehar’s The Merry Widow.

Viennese Strauss Gala was originally musically constructed by Matthew Freeman of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and was created to evoke the splendour, glamour and romance of Strauss’s era.

Maria leads the cast as they re-create scenes inspired by the grand ballrooms of 19th century Vienna. Her theatre credits include playing Christine opposite Michael Crawford’s Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera in the West End, Musetta in La Boheme in London and Despina in Cosi Fan Tutti in Amsterdam.

The evening also stars Amanda Watsham who recently performed as Carlotta in The Phantom of the Opera in the West End in addition to having taken roles in The Merry Widow, The Tales of Hofmann, Showboat, Bless The Bride, Carousel and Orpheus.

Performing alongside Maria and Amanda are British tenors Stephen John Davis and Peter Wilman.

Stephen has also performed in the West End in The Phantom of the Opera as Phantom and as Brother Reuben in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. For D’Oyly Carte Opera Company he has played Sir Joseph Porter on the HMS Pinafore UK tour, Major General and Samuel in Pirates of Penzance and Boatswain in HMS Pinafore

Peter has taken various principal roles in Don Giovanni for the English Chamber Opera and also Dolfin for the Welsh National Opera.

The quartet of lead singers is complemented by the European Orchestral Ensemble which breathes life into Strauss’s timeless classics.
