A close shave for a Horsham man in the war.

“Writing to Mr and Mrs Langridge of Piries Place, Horsham, from the 3rd Western Hospital at Cardiff, Corporal J. Langley of the 2nd Royal Sussex Regiment, says: “I happen to be one of the lucky ones, for after several narrow escapesI got wounded in the hip by a shrapnel shell and was sent back to Engand where I guess I shall remaian until after Christmas.

“I had a very narrow escape from being ‘put out of mess’ for if it had gone another eighth of an inch deep I am afraid I should not have the pleasure of writing this now.”
