As regular readers of this column will know, there had been moves to close shops early before the war started. With the conflict underway this request was not the best timing.
“Horsham Urban Council. The Horsham Postmaster wrote stating application has been made by the sub-postmistress, West Street, for authority to close the Post Office at 7 p.m., on week days; and asking the Council’s view on the matter.
“He said arrangements could be made for the collection of correspondence, posted inside the Office, up to the hour named and the usual collections would be made from the outside box.
“Mr Theobald moved that the consent of the Council not be given.”
