The weather is getting colder, decorations are in shops and some people are already blasting festive music.

It seems like the country is looking forward to the Christmas season more than ever after an unprecedented and tough year.

As festive parties and work dos are inevitably off the table in 2020 due to the pandemic, families are looking to go all out in their homes to try and spread some Christmas cheer.

And, of course, the most important decoration is the tree.

While some opt for artificial versions, which are usually easier to put up, buying and dressing a real tree can be an exciting festive activity with a magnificent end result.

But be warned, real Christmas trees have a short lifespan and typically last for about four weeks before they start to shed their pine needles.

For this reason, The British Christmas Tree Growers Association (BCTGA) recommends buying your tree at the beginning of December if you want it to last throughout the holiday season.

This means you should start planning where to buy your tree from now, and many outlets are already selling them, with the appropriate Covid restrictions in place.

This plantation of Christmas trees is owned by a trio of local families, and is also home to wildlife including owls, skylarks and hedgehogs among the festive cheer.

Furze Firs specialise in Nordmann 'non-drop' trees, and even allow you to cut down your own if you so wish (though pre-cut trees are available of course); they also provide ready-to-go pot grown trees suitable for transplanting into gardens.

To comply with Covid-19 guidelines, this year those wishing to collect their trees on a weekend will need to make use of the new online booking system to choose a one hour slot.

Fox Hill Christmas Trees

Due to Covid-19, Balcombe Estate Sawmill are operating a new system to help reduce contact between taff and customers, and trees will be sold netted and ready to go with a drive-thru system for pick-up.
