Severe flooding hit Ashington in 2010: Dramatic photos show the devastation after water gushed into people’s homes
Torrential rain caused chaos in Ashington when a stream burst its banks and flooded nearby homes and cars in 2010.
Here’s what our reporter wrote at the time:
Firefighters were called to Willow Way in the early hours of Tuesday morning to pump water out of homes and reopen the road. Nicola Webster, who was staying at her parents’ house in Willow Way, woke up to find the devastation on Tuesday morning.
Nicola said: “I was lying in bed and woke up at about 4.30am and just had a really horrible feeling something was wrong. I heard a neighbour’s car alarm go off and got up to see what was happening and as I came downstairs there was water pouring through the front door. It was very scary.”
