Meeting called to consider doctors' surgery's future

The meeting has been arranged to allow members of the public to give their views on the proposed demolition of Glebe Surgery in Monastery Lane in Storrington to make way for a new surgery, pharmacy, and car parking spaces, as well as 24 homes.

The plans also include adapted access to Monastery Lane and the creation of new public green open space

Up to ten representations from members of the public will be heard at the meeting, five in favour and five against, for a maximum of three minutes each.

If a group wishes to nominate a spokesperson, the speaker will be given twice the amount of time (six minutes). However, this will reduce the overall the number of speakers in that for/against area, to four.

Members of the public or groups wishing to speak at the meeting must register with the clerk of the council in person or by phone on: 01903 746547 at least 48 hours before the meeting. Answerphone messages or emails will not be valid.

The meeting is open to the public and will take place on Thursday, October 13 at 7pm (doors will open at 6.50pm) at the Parish Hall in Thakeham Road in Storrington.

Storrington village residents today announced the formation of a new Community Action Group - SPANGLE (Storrington People Against Needless Glebe-Land Extortion). The group aims to preserve the village’s last remaining historic green space, which they say is under threat from development.

“We’re a diverse group of local residents, businesses and concerned individuals – with a range of backgrounds, skillsets and expertise,” said SPANGLE spokesman and local business leader David Richardson.

“But we are united in one objective: to preserve the Glebe Field for future generations.”
